THE PITBULL

Ballistic Material Used in Construction for NIJ Level III

  • Ballistic steel - 3/8" NIJ Level III Astralloy 6.33 (can be hot formed and welded with no loss of hardness, ballistic properties of the metal do not change when formed).
  • Glass - Laminated glass/polycarbonate w/polycarbonate layer on the interior side for spall protection 39-41 mm NIJ Level III.

Base Vehicle Specifications & Conversions

  • The vehicle body is one integral unit design consisting of the cab & personnel area. The OEM dash panel is incorporated into the ballistic body.
  • The cab/body including floor and roof is constructed of 3/8" ballistic plate BP6.33. All body welds are on both interior and exterior side of the ballistic plates.  Structural integrity of the body is accomplished by use of 3" channel as a roll bar in the front and rear of the personnel compartment.
  • The rear bumper is 32" wide with a step 14" high and 16" width constructed of 1/4" steel tread plate.
  • Running boards are 8" wide and extend from the front edge of the front doors and wrap around to the rear bumper.
  • The running boards and rear bumper are fabricated as one seamless unit.
  • The front bumper is 14" wide constructed of 12" steel channel. A storage compartment is built in to the center section of the bumper. Four tow hooks are attached to the front bumper. Two 12" rubber bumperettes are attached to front of bumper. A grill guard constructed of 3/8” ballistic steel provides ballistic protection to the engine compartment.
  • Additional protection to the engine compartment is provided by welding 3/8 ballistic steel panels inside of the front fenders extending to the front side of the cab compartment. These panels are seam welded in the cowl section of the body. Under hood 3/8" ballistic steel panels are attached on both sides of the engine compartment with clearance for the OEM hood. These panels are bolted in place for maintenance access. Additional 3/8 ballistic steel panels are secured behind headlights. OEM front fenders and hood use is maintained.
